Step 3: Lay out the crescent roll dough. Use your fingers to help seal where the cuts are, so you have a uniform dough. Then spoon the mixture onto it.
Step 4: Cut slits into the dough with a pizza cutter then start braiding the dough together.
Step 5: Bake in the oven until golden-brown.
Expert Tips
- Make certain to pay attention to how you’re cutting the dough. You want to cut it in a way that allows you to braid but also is thick enough that when it cooks, it holds in all the goodness as well.
- Don’t forget to brush on the egg on top as that gives it that shine that just makes it stand out!
Your first time making this recipe might have you feeling nervous, but trust us. It’s not hard at all. Just follow along with the recipe and you’ll have the braid in no time at all!

Variations to Recipe
While we think that this recipe is as it stands, there are a few things that you can do to change up the flavor and taste.
- Add in more veggies. You betcha. More veggies are always a good idea. As long as you don’t overstuff the braid, you can always add in more veggies. We're thinking that mushrooms and peas would be a great addition.
- If you don’t want to add almonds on top, shredded melted cheese is a second choice. It might not look as pretty this way but we can guarantee you that it’s still going to taste.
- Change up the type of shredded cheese that you use inside the crescent roll as well. It’s how a different flavor of cheese can easily change up the entire taste!
Practical notes
Why is the inside baking out of the braid?
More than likely you didn’t do the braid quite tight enough or the edges aren’t sealed good enough. Just take a peek and learn for the next time. If there is any space at all, the inside mixture is going to find its way out.
Can you meal prep this simple recipe ahead of time?
We love to make the cheese and broccoli mixture up ahead of time. It saves us a lot of sanity the next day or later on in the afternoon. You can also completely make this recipe up to the point of baking it and save that for the next day as well. u003cbru003eI wouldn’t make this up more than a day in advance just to be certain it’s as fresh as possible.
How do you reheat leftover crescent roll broccoli braid?
Low and slow in the oven is one way but you have to be careful that you don’t burn. You can also cut a piece and put it in the microwave as well. Just a few seconds will get it piping hot and soft!
Can you add meat to this recipe?
A lot of people add u003ca href=u0022 chickenu003c/au003e or diced ham to this recipe and that’s totally fine! If you have any leftover chicken this is a great way to use it! You can also shred up a store-bought u003ca href=u0022 chickenu003c/au003e as well and have that mixed in with all the other ingredients. It’ll taste great and add good protein!
