Practical notes
What is a cheese ball made of?
A cheese ball is made of a base of cream cheese, shredded cheese, spices, and more. Sometimes you will find diced up meat is added, green onions, etc. Sour cream is called in some recipes to add flavor but also help the cheese ball not set up so hard.
What can you roll a cheese ball in Besides nuts?
Bacon, dried fruit, green onions, shredded cheese, skip coating the cheese ball with topping, or even toasted bread crumbs that have been cooled.
Best crackers for cheese balls?
Triscuits, Club, Ritz, or any other cracker that offers a mild flavor. You will find depending on the cracker you can either dip in the cheese ball or spread on with a knife. Some cracker can break if too soft with this cream cheese ball recipe.
How do you make a cheese ball firmer?
Once you have made the ball you can roll in your topping of choice, then cover tightly and place in the fridge. Let it have time to set up fully which can take 3-4 hours or let it sit overnight. Then when you serve it will have a firmer texture.
Can we leave cream cheese out overnight to soften?
The USDA recommends to only leave cream cheese out for a maximum of 2 hours. Anything after that the cream cheese will be at too warm of a temperature and risk making you sick.
