- Sweetened Condensed Milk—This thick and sweet mixture will make the frosting for this cake ball recipe a hit.
- Butter – Unsalted or salted butter works for this recipe.
- Eggs – Large eggs that are at room temperature work best.
- Coconut – Shredded coconut is the stand-out flavor of the German chocolate frosting.
- Pecans—For the crunch of the German chocolate recipe, opt for unsalted chopped pecans.
- Vanilla – A splash of vanilla will brighten up the frosting.
- Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips – You can use dark, semi-sweet, or even milk chocolate. We prefer semi-sweet for a more traditional flavor.
- Crisco – This will help the chocolate set up and harden.
How to Make
Step 1: Bake your cake as directed on the box. Mix, pour, and bake.

Make sure to stir the mixture to prevent burning constantly.
Step 3: Once thickened, remove from heat and toss in the vanilla, pecans, and coconut. Allow the frosting to cool for 30 minutes.
Step 4: When the cake has cooled, you will crumble it all up. Then, take the crumbled cake and mix in the frosting you made. Once mixed well, roll into small balls and place on parchment paper.

You want to ensure you are not working with a cold cake pop mixture. If so when you coat them in the chocolate they will expand as they warm up.
