Practical notes
When would you use kitchen conversions in terms of measurements?
Kitchen conversions are used when you are measuring ingredients. This is used when you want to reduce the measurements and half a recipe. Or maybe you want to double to recipe to make a larger batch.
What is the difference between dry and liquid measuring cups?
You will find there are measuring cups for dry ingredients like flour, sugar, and other ingredients. Then you will find other measuring cups for water, milk, oil, etc. Dry measuring is meant to scoop the ingredients into the measuring cups and then level the cups off with a knife. You do not want to pack down the flour or other dry ingredients as it can over-fill the measuring cups. For wet ingredients sit the measuring cup down and then add the liquid. Eyeball it on a flat level surface to ensure the wet ingredients are fully level.
How to measure dry ingredients properly?
For ingredients like rice, sugar, oats, you can pour into the measuring cups. You will want to have a level top of the ingredients. Then for flour you will want to use a tablespoon and scoop the flour into the larger measuring cup. Never pack flour into the measuring cup, as it will over-fill. Once you have enough flour in the measuring cup, use a knife to level off the top.
How to measure wet ingredients properly?
Set your measuring cup on a flat surface. Then slowly pour the ingredients into the measuring cup. Take a minute and wait for the liquid to stop moving and lower down to see where the level is. Add or take away the liquid as needed to get that level reading on the measurement you need.
