Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is a taco ring?

A taco ring is a baked dish made with crescent dough, where seasoned taco meat and cheese are arranged in a ring and wrapped with crescent dough. It’s a fun and easy alternative to traditional tacos and is good for sharing.

Can we make this taco ring ahead of time?

Yes! You can assemble the taco ring up to 24 hours in advance, cover it tightly, and refrigerate. When ready to bake, add a few extra minutes to the baking time since it will be chilled.

What meat works best for a taco ring?

Ground beef is the most popular choice, but you can easily substitute ground turkey, ground chicken, or even shredded rotisserie chicken. For a vegetarian taco ring, use black beans, refried beans, or a plant-based meat alternative.

Can we use different dough instead of crescent rolls?

Crescent rolls work best for a classic taco ring, but puff pastry or crescent dough sheets can also be used. Just keep in mind that baking times may vary slightly.

How do we keep the taco ring from getting soggy?

Be sure to drain excess grease from the cooked meat and let it cool slightly before assembling the ring. Avoid adding wet toppings like salsa or sour cream until after baking.

What toppings go well with a taco ring?

Popular taco ring toppings include shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, pico de gallo, black olives, and jalapeños. Adding toppings after baking keeps the crescent dough crisp.

Can we freeze leftover taco ring?

Yes! Let leftovers cool completely, then wrap tightly and freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat in the oven or air fryer for best texture.

Serving & Pairing Ideas

Ingredients

Makes 6 servings

  • 2 cans crescent rolls
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup cheese shredded
  • 1 packet taco seasoning any variety

Method

  1. Cook beef in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. While the beef is cooking, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Once the hamburger is done cooking, drain grease, and add taco seasoning mix and stir well.
  2. Place the crescent dough in a circle on an ungreased large cookie sheet, or pizza pan. The short sides of the triangles should be on the outer edge of the dough ring. Once you have it arranged begin to spoon beef meat mixture to the outer edges of the wide ends of the crescent rolls. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
  3. Begin folding over the short end of the crescent ring and pull it to the center.
  4. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the crescent rolls are cooked all the way through and are golden brown.
  5. Fill with all your favorite taco toppings, serve, and devour!
