Ingredients List
Pork Chops – Bone-in pork chops are our first choice for this recipe because they stay juicy while the rice cooks. Boneless pork chops also work, but watch them closely since thinner chops can cook faster.
Long-Grain White Rice – Use uncooked long-grain white rice. The rice cooks directly in the casserole dish and absorbs the beef consommé and French onion flavor as it bakes. We don’t recommend substituting instant, brown, or wild rice without adjusting the liquid and cooking time.
Beef Consommé – Adds a rich, savory beef flavor and provides some of the liquid needed to cook the rice.
French Onion Soup Mix – A packet of dry onion soup mix seasons the entire casserole and gives the rice its savory French onion flavor.
Worcestershire Sauce – Adds another layer of savory, umami flavor to the rice mixture.
Butter – Butter melts into the rice while it cooks, adding richness and flavor.

Tips for the Best Pork Chops and Rice
Use long-grain white rice. Different rice varieties absorb liquid differently, so sticking with long-grain white rice will give you the most predictable results.
Keep the casserole tightly covered. The foil traps steam inside the baking dish, which is essential for cooking the rice.
Choose thicker pork chops. Thick bone-in pork chops are less likely to dry out while you wait for the rice to become tender.
Don’t keep checking the rice. Removing the foil repeatedly allows steam to escape.
Sear the pork chops for extra flavor. This isn’t required, but you can quickly brown the chops in a hot skillet before placing them over the rice.
Storing Leftovers
So if you have leftovers you can store the pork and rice casserole in an airtight container in the fridge. The leftovers reheat pretty well. Warm in the microwave or cover with foil and bake in the oven until it is heated through.
We do find you can freeze the leftovers as well. The one thing to note is the rice will become a lot softer once it has been frozen and thawed. We find the tender rice tastes best fresh or reheated from the microwave and not frozen. But it is up to you if you want to try and freeze.
