Step Five: Refrigerate for 2 hours, then remove and top with the peach ring and gummy bear in the center of the jello shot.

Depending on size of cups you use, the set up time for the Jello can vary. Mine took about 2-3 hours to set up.

Variations to Recipe

  • Add gummy bears into the cup and then pour the jello mixture on top for a loaded gummy bear jello shot.
  • Add in some candy Nerds to give the bottom of the Jello shot color. Just add enough to cover the bottom of the container.
  • Flavored booze works great at elevating the flavor of your shots!
  • Take a cocktail umbrella and poke in to each of the shots at the end once the Jello has set up!
  • Switch up the flavor of Jello you use, any flavor works!
  • Stick a Swedish fish in the shots instead for a fun fish in the ocean theme.

Recipe Notes:

Make sure that your water is boiling and then add in the Jello. It is needed to ensure all the gelatin dissolves, otherwise they will not set up properly.

Use cold Vodka to help drop the temperature of the Jello mixture.

Placing your cups on a cookie sheet will help create a flat surface for you to easily move from kitchen to fridge, and etc.

You can double, triple, etc. this recipe. Just make sure you have enough room in the fridge to hold them all. These blue jello shots are so tasty!

Practical notes

Can you make these jello shots without alcohol?

Absolutely! Just swap the vodka for cold water, and mix and pour the same. It will then be an easy and tasty kid-friendly treat. Or if you want to ramp up the flavor, use cold lemon lime soda in replace of the vodka.

Can you get drunk off jello shots?

You will find that jello shots are not strong, but if you eat enough of them, you can indeed get buzzed from them. Make sure to drink responsibly.

How much alcohol can you put in jello shots?

Generally you will find shots have around 1/2 cup of alcohol. You can go all the way up to 2/3 cup, but no more. If you add too much alcohol the jello will not set properly. If you do a strong jello shot recipe then do 2/3 cup vodka, and 1/3 cup cold water.

What kind of vodka do you use for jello shots?

We used Skyy vodka but any brand of vodka works. You could even use a flavored vodka to enhance the flavor of the jello even more. We think a lemonade flavored vodka would be.

Can you freeze jello shots to set them up faster?

Freezing jello shots can affect the texture of the jello. It is recommended to not freeze them. Just plan to make your jello in advance so it has time to set up in the fridge.

Kitchen notes

Jello

– You are welcome to use any flavor of Jello you want. We did blue to mimic water. Vodka – we used Skyy vodka, but you can use any brand. Or even try a flavored vodka to elevate the flavor even more. Non-Alcoholic – Swap the vodka with cold water if you would like to make a kid-friendly jello treat. Alcohol – You can add up to 2/3 cup of vodka to the Jello shots recipe. Much more and it can cause the jello to not set up. If you do 2/3 cup vodka, then add 1/3 cup cold water, not the full 1/2 cup water.
