Practical notes
Here are some common questions asked about making this BBQ pulled chicken Instant Pot recipe.
Can we cook frozen chicken in Instant Pot?You can cook frozen or fresh chicken in the Instant Pot. That is one of the perks of pressure cooking. It will just take longer for your pressure cooker to come to pressure and begin the cooking process. You will leave the cook time the same. Or if your chicken is thick you can add 4-5 extra minutes to ensure it is fully cooked.
How to know chicken is fully cooked?Probe the chicken with a meat thermometer and ensure the chicken reads 165 degrees internally. Otherwise, you will find the chicken needs longer to cook. Return and cook for additional time.
Can we double this recipe? If you own a 6 quart or larger pressure cooker go right ahead and double. Just watch the max fill line on the side and make sure not to go over that line.
How long does it take for chicken to reach pressure?Depending on the food inside the pressure cooker the Instant Pot can take anywhere from 5-20 minutes. You will find the fuller the pot is the longer it can take. Soups, stews, etc. take longer. Also if you cook frozen chicken it will take up to 20 minutes.
How long to cook if we do less chicken? If you are cooking thinner or smaller amount of chicken you can drop the cook time to 13-15 minutes and should be fine for pressure cooking. As always make sure to check internal temperature as all pieces of chicken range in size, and cook differently.

BBQ Sauce – The sauce is optional but we love adding it. Helps to level out all the flavors. Storing leftovers – Store your leftovers in the fridge for 3-4 days. Or you can freeze the leftover pulled chicken in a freezer bag or container. Or vacuum seal to extend shelf life even more.
