Storing Cookies
Refrigerate – We prefer to store these cookies in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-5 days. We find these cookies store best in the fridge due to the frosting.
Freezing – You can also freeze your cereal cookies in a single layer of cookies. Use wax paper between each layer to prevent the cookies from sticking together.
Helpful Tips
Here are some tips for success when making this fruity pebbles recipe!
- Don’t skip out the cornstarch, as it will add a totally different texture to the cookies.
- Cream butter and sugar for the 4-5 minutes. This will make the dough nice and fluffy. If you don’t cream it long enough.
- Do not overmix the batter or it will cause your cookies to harden up and become dense.
- We do recommend using a mixer, that way you ensure the cookie dough is mixed well.
Practical notes
How to keep cookies from spreading too much? You can use a silicone baking mat or parchment paper down on the baking sheet. It will help prevent the cookies from spreading compared to a cooking spray. Or you can refrigerate the cookie for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Can we change out the cereal for these cookies? You are welcome to change out the cereal to make these any flavor you want. Just soak the cereal in the milk. Then top the cookies with cereal as you would like.
What to do with the cereal after it soaks in the milk?Just toss out the cereal after it is done soaking in the milk. We find that the cereal will become soggy. You just want the flavor from the cereal.
Can we skip the frosting?Yes, you can bake the cookies and skip the frosting if you want. Cereal milk frosting just adds more flavor to the cookies, but you can use any flavor of frosting. A classic buttercream, vanilla frosting, etc.
